Historic First: Pakistan and India Face Off in Asia Cup Final After 41 Years

Date:

Dubai: In a landmark moment for cricket, Pakistan and India will clash today (Sunday) in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 — the first time in the tournament’s 41-year history that the two arch-rivals meet in the title match.
The high-voltage encounter is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM local time at the Dubai International Stadium. While India has already defeated Pakistan twice during the earlier stages of the tournament, the final is expected to be a completely different contest, with both teams under immense pressure and fans around the world eagerly awaiting the showdown.
Pakistan’s hopes are pinned on bold leadership from captain Salman Ali Agha and match-winning performances from star players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Sahibzada Farhan, and Saim Ayub.
Road to the Final
Pakistan secured their place in the final by defeating Bangladesh by 11 runs in a crucial Super Four match, which effectively served as a semi-final.
India, on the other hand, qualified in dramatic fashion. Their final Super Four clash against Sri Lanka ended in a thrilling tie, with Sri Lanka falling just one run short of the 203-run target. Pathum Nissanka’s brilliant 107 kept Sri Lanka in the hunt, but the deadlock led to a Super Over. India chased down the modest 3-run target on the very first ball, sealing their spot in the final.
Captain Salman’s Confidence
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver under pressure.
“We’re hopeful of a strong performance in the final. Our goal is to win the cup, and we won’t repeat past mistakes,” he said.
Salman acknowledged the intensity of Pakistan-India matches and hinted that Pakistan may have saved its best batting for the final. He added that the playing XI would be finalized after assessing pitch conditions.
“Matches between Pakistan and India are always intense. There’s never been a time when we didn’t shake hands. Whether someone shows up for the photoshoot or not — we’ll be there,” he remarked.
